Derio is one of our Futures Coaches and Therapeutic Mentors. Originally from Brewster, NY, Derio completed his Undergraduate degree at SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts. After finishing his undergraduate studies, Derio worked in the New York public school system at both the middle school and high school levels.
Spending close to year in the public school system, Derio decided to attend Andover Newton Theological school. Being exposed to the many different programs at Andover sparked a curiosity in Derio, which led to a desire to work with a teenage population across multiple different settings. Derio spent the next year working with at risk youth in New York, at an orphanage in Surket, Nepal, and in an outdoor wilderness program in the Adirondacks. Upon completing the outdoor wilderness program, Derio volunteered with special needs adults through AmeriCorps.
After completing the AmeriCorps program, Derio was offered a job at a private boarding school in Amenia, NY called Kildonan, which focused on assisting students with learning disabilities. Post Kildonan, Derio earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health and Counseling from Southern Connecticut State University. As part of his training, Derio spent his internship counseling individuals and families at Shoreline Behavior Wellness Center.
During Derio’s free time he enjoys hanging out with his son, his wife, and their dog. Derio also enjoys reading, playing his bass guitar and listening to music.
